As he sat on the floating seat, he watched people eat strange things. It contradicted all the smells assembling onto his tongue. Is it morning or noon? Hunter thought. He homed in on those delicious smells and decided breakfast was no longer being served.

His hunger grew animalistic as his food dilemma spiraled out of control. Each cup and every tray was void of animal products. The only recognizable protein came in the form of tofu, or so he guessed. He searched even harder to locate something that carried more sustenance. Something hearty, he thought. Fruit, grains, or tofu wouldn’t satisfy his feeble body. He convinced himself that healthy, light items such as these might make him throw up again.

To his surprise, tucked in the corner was a young man devouring what looked to be a hamburger. He clearly saw the bun and the recognizable in-betweens. Merely thinking of a burger caused a drone to swoop in. Its propellers brushed his face with a hard gust, causing him to wince.

The machine hovered there for a moment as its mighty wings forced his hair to flutter wildly. It looked at him while mumbling a garbled mess of digital words. Once the noise and sequence of lights finished, it zipped away instantly.

Within moments, the drone whizzed back with a tray in tow. It descended upon his table with graceful ease. Hunter locked eyes on the drone as it carefully placed a tray of food in front of him.

The burger looked immaculate, almost fake and plastic. But the smell trickling up his nose removed all apprehensions. His hands shook as he snatched it up. He ripped off a massive chunk and quickly destroyed the burger by a third. He ravenously chewed as a euphoric expression claimed his face.

He closed his eyes in bliss as he savored each flavor unraveling inside his mouth. The small burger packed a delicious punch.

Once he swallowed the considerable piece, Hunter’s eyes paid homage to the beautiful feast resting inside his hands. But in complete shock, Hunter dropped the burger and spit everything out. He went saucer-eyed. He glared at the food in horror as his mouth widened. His brain couldn’t process what lay there on the tray.

Hunter closed his mouth and stared at the food. His immediate reaction was to reach for a glass of water, and within a few seconds, a droid granted his wish. The cup’s texture was unusual to the touch. The container was clear as glass, but like all things in the Dall, nothing was what it appears to be. His hands cradled the velvety cup. The liquid inside appeared to be water, but he couldn’t be sure.

He sniffed the rim of the cup and inhaled its fumes. Oddly, the liquid inside smelled sweet, earthy, and like fresh cucumber. Hunter drank a shy amount. He let it sit on his tongue for a while before committing to the swallow.

Tiny bubbles tickled his tongue as Hunter held the liquid in his mouth. This mysterious water tasted similar to club soda, but cleaner and fresher.
